Three residents and two firefighters were hurt in a house fire Wednesday in Sterling Heights, according to news media reports.
The residents were taken to a hospital in critical condition, and the firefighters suffered minor burns, WDIV-TV (Channel 4) reported.
WWJ-AM (950) reported two children and a parent were taken to the hospital. The radio station reported that the children are said to be age 15 years and older.
One of the injured firefighters was briefly trapped inside the house, both media outlets reported.
The Free Press left messages with the city's fire, police and community relations seeking details about the blaze, but nothing was immediately available.
WDIV-TV reported that fire crews were called to a home in the 37000 block of Mariano Drive about 8:15 a.m. The street is north of Metro Parkway and west of Dodge Park Road.
Battalion Chief Tim Bade told WDIV-TV the family was trapped and needed help. Four people were in the home, the television station reported, adding that Bade said a neighbor tried to help before fire crews took over and went into the burning home.
Bade told WDIV-TV that firefighters rescued three residents and the fourth got out on his or her own.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. WDIV-TV reported that authorities said it may have started in the kitchen.
