Pittsburgh Firefighters Injured Battling 5-Alarm Blaze

A massive apartment complex fire in Pittsburgh's West Oakland neighborhood displaced nearly 75 residents, and it took crews close to three hours to get under control.

Two Pittsburgh firefighters were injured while fighting a five-alarm blaze Saturday afternoon in an apartment complex in the city’s West Oakland neighborhood, according to the city Department of Public Safety.

A Public Safety spokesmen said the firefighters were in stable condition when taken to a hospital or hospitals.

The fire on De Ruad Street started at around 2 p.m., according to Allegheny County 911.

Pittsburgh firefighters declared the blaze under control as of 5:35 p.m.

However, as of 6 p.m., Fifth Avenue remained closed between Birmingham Bridge and Jumonville Street. Officials are at the scene to inspect the integrity of the building.

A follow-up patient condition wasn’t available.

WPXI-TV said people from 74 apartments were impacted.
