Five FDNY Firefighters Hurt—One Seriously—in 3-Alarm Blaze

It took FDNY crews around two hours to get the fire under control after flames tore through a five-story apartment building in the East Village.

Five firefighters were injured, one seriously, battling a three-alarm fire in an East Village apartment building Monday.

The blaze broke out about 3:40 p.m. in a five-story building on E. 7th St. at Second Ave., with flames spreading through the walls and floors of the entire building, authorities said. Firefighters brought the fire under control two hours later.

One firefighter was seriously hurt, while four more suffered minor injuries, an FDNY spokesman said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, the spokesman said.
