NJ Crews Fight 4-Alarm Blaze Seen 20 Miles Away
A fire that broke out Monday at an auto body and mechanic shop in Paterson, shooting massive plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles is being brought under control with no injuries, an official said.
Firefighters remain on the scene on Market Street, according to Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale.
A firefighter fell through the roof, but was able to free himself and appears to be OK, Speziale said.
The Paterson Fire Department is receiving help from firefighters in Haledon, Clifton, Passaic and Little Falls, the director added.
A witness who was 20 miles away said he could clearly see the smoke from the fire, which broke out around 9:30 a.m.
