Mayday Sent in House Blaze that Injures Three VA Firefighters

Three Virginia firefighters were injured during a single-story house blaze Saturday.
Bedford crews responded to a residential fire shortly after 6 p.m., the department stated in an online post. Once at the scene, firefighters saw heavy flames coming from the basement and first-floor window of the wood frame house.
A mayday was sent out about 10 minutes into the incident, and the Rapid Intervention Team was deployed to locate a downed firefighter, according to the department. The firefighter was quickly found and pulled from the burning house.
The rescued firefighter was one of three taken to the hospital with injuries suffered while battling the blaze. Details concerning the extent and nature of the injuries were not released.
No one else was injured in the fire, and the cause is under investigation. Along with Bedford, firefighters from Moneta, Forest, Stewartsville, and Bedford County also responded to the blaze, and the flames were under control just before 6:25 p.m., WSET-TV reports.
