Houston FFs Force Way in to Save Child, Grandparents from Fire

July 1, 2020
A group of Houston firefighters battled flames in a burning garage as they carried out the three people who had been asleep and unaware the house had caught fire.

Three people, including a toddler, were pulled from a house fire late Tuesday night in southeast Houston.

A neighbor called 9-1-1 shortly before midnight after spotting smoke coming out of the home in the 7500 block of Oak Vista Drive, near Telephone Road and Reveille Street. Firefighters received reports that people may have been trapped inside the house.

When they arrived, they found smoke pouring out of the eaves. They forced their way into the home and found a toddler and her grandparents asleep in one of the bedrooms, according to Houston Fire Department District Chief Ronnie Martin.

“They were not aware their house was on fire,” Martin said.

A group of firefighters carried the trio out of the burning home as others fought flames in the garage. Crews had the fire out within 20 minutes.

No one was injured. Arson investigators believe an electrical issue sparked the blaze.
