Three PA Firefighters Injured in Fatal Multi-Alarm Blaze

July 27, 2020
Two people were killed when a three-story home in Allentown caught fire, forcing two adults and two young children to leap from a second-story window to escape the flames.

Three Pennsylvania firefighters were taken to the hospital for heat-related issues they suffered during a fatal multi-alarm blaze Monday.

The fire broke out at about 11:30 a.m. at a three-story house in Allentown, The Morning Call reports. Four people—including two young children—were able to escape the flames by jumping from a second-floor window, sending one of the individuals taken to the hospital.

When crews reached the scene, they were told that people were still trapped inside the burning house. But it's not clear how or where firefighters discovered the victims.

Three firefighters also suffered heat exhaustion while battling the blaze, and they were taken to the hospital.

A narrow alley that limited access for equipment made fighting the fire difficult for crews, Allentown Fire Chief James Wehr told the Call. Firefighters still were able to extinguish the flames in around 45 minutes.

The incident marks the city's first fatal fire this year, according to the Call.
