Crews worked for around an hour to extinguish a fire that spread through a two-story apartment building in North Dallas, damaging eight units and displacing at least 14 residents.

Nearly 50 Dallas firefighters tackled a two-alarm blaze that broke out at a two-story apartment building Tuesday.

Crews responded to a fire at the Bel Air Park Apartments in shortly after 5 p.m., Dallas Fire Rescue said. When they arrived at the apartment complex, firefighters encountered flames spreading toward the roof.

But all firefighters were pulled out of the burning building, and a second alarm was struck as smoke and flames poured out of the roof, the department said. Two aerials then were set up on the perimeter to douse the fire from above, while firefighters on the ground used hand-lines to attack the blaze.

About 48 firefighters worked for around an hour to get the flames under control, the department stated. Eight units in the apartment complex were left uninhabitable and 14 residents were displaced.
