Collapse Injures VA Firefighter, Destroys Equipment

A Virginia firefighter was injured when a structure collapsed during a residential blaze early Saturday.
The fire broke out at around 5:45 a.m. at a Roanoke home, the fire department said in an online post. When crews arrived, they began operating defensively.
A firefighter spotted a partial collapse in the structure's foundation and warned those around the building of the possible danger. Shortly after the warning, the residence completely collapsed.
One firefighter was struck by debris from the structure when it collapsed. Medics treated and released the first responder at the scene, according to the department.
Firefighting equipment also was caught in the collapse, and the damage made it unsalvageable.
"A scary situation, but one our personnel handled well and with a positive outcome," the department stated
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
