An apparent steam pipe explosion at a Veteran Affairs medical center in West Haven killed at least two people Friday, and local fire marshals are investigating the incident.

At least two people were killed in an apparent steam pipe explosion at a Veteran Affairs hospital in Connecticut Friday morning, according to a report.

Connecticut State Police said in a tweet just before 10 a.m. that they were dispatched to the medical center in West Haven to assist local fire marshals with a “reported explosion."

A fire official later told the New Haven Register that the blast came from a steam pipe in one of the buildings.

There was no immediate word on the extent of the damage. It was also unclear whether anyone else was hurt by the explosion.

This is a developing story.
