NJ Firefighters Tackle Five-Alarm Structure Blaze

Dec. 2, 2020
The massive fire engulfed a building in Englewood on Wednesday as crews shut down surrounding streets while they worked to get the flames under control.

Firefighters on Wednesday morning battled a five-alarm blaze ripping through an Englewood building that was severe enough to shut down surrounding streets, officials said.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a fire was reported at a building on Bancker Street, prompting Englewood Fire Department to respond and try to keep the flames under control. By late Wednesday morning, the fire had reached five-alarms, a captain at the Englewood fire desk said.

The Englewood Police department cautioned people to avoid the south end of Englewood due to the fire. Because of the fire, Route 93 north was closed and detoured at Route 4, the New Jersey Department of Transportation posted on Twitter.

Route 4\u2032s westbound ramp to Route 93 north was also closed due to the fire, the NJDOT said.
