Pittsburgh Firefighter Injures Ankle Battling Fire

Pittsburgh firefighters responded to a fire that started in a residential basement in the city's Greenfield neighborhood, and crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the home.

A Pittsburgh firefighter was injured during a residential fire Wednesday, according to the department.

The fire broke out at about 9:45 a.m. at a home in the city's Greenfield neighborhood. When crews reached the scene, the house's resident alerted them that the fire had started in the basement.

During the incident, one firefighter suffered an ankle injury inside the house. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, the department said.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the home, and they had the fire put out in less than a half hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
