An FDNY EMS worker was seriously injured and five firefighters suffered minor injuries during a five-alarm fire at a Staten Island warehouse Wednesday.

The fire broke out at around 2:30 p.m. at a warehouse in the Mariners Harbor neighborhood, and it quickly escalated to a five-alarm call, Acting Chief of Department Thomas Richardson said in a statement. Around 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the fire.

Flames engulfed the warehouse, and plumes of smoke could be seen for several miles. Workers were still in the building at the time of the fire, but they were able to safely escape, Richardson stated.
