Fast-Working Firefighters Limit Damage in PA Car-Carrier Fire

June 10, 2021
Dramatic photos captured a multi-department response led by Hope volunteer firefighters that saved over a half-dozen vehicles from a fire on a car carrier along Interstate 80.

A quick response by Hope Township volunteer firefighters led to a car carrier only losing about half its new vehicle load to a blaze early Thursday morning on Interstate 80 West, the department said on Facebook.

The call came in about 5 a.m. and no one was hurt, according to reports from the scene.

Six vehicles were burning when the first firefighters arrived at mile marker 13.7, but seven cars remained “unscathed” and the truck was “salvageable” after the fire was out, according to the department’s Facebook post and other reports.

Allamuchy Township firefighters were also dispatched and were assigned to cutting open the smokey car hoods to expose hot spots, according to that department’s Facebook page. They also helped with overhaul and cleanup.

The Blairstown First Aid Squad also responded.

Westbound traffic was tied up through the morning rush, according to a report from the scene.
