VA Firefighter Injured in House Fire that Displaces Nine

Aug. 17, 2021
Chesapeake firefighters worked for a little over an hour to get control of a fire that engulfed a home after the occupants were able to safely escape.

Nine people were displaced after an early morning fire at a Chesapeake home Tuesday.

Fire crews received a call at 12:45 a.m., about a house fire on the 800 block of Washington Drive.

The home’s residents were able to get out safely before the fire consumed much of the house, according to officials.

Firefighters got the fire under control just after 2 a.m. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents find temporary housing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
