Firefighters worked to protect a Palmyra museum while a laundromat next door was leveled in a fire Wednesday allegedly sparked by two teenagers.

A laundry business in western New York was destroyed by an intense fire that leveled the entire building and threatened a nearby museum.

Firefighters from Palmyra along with other Wayne County agencies worked to control the blaze at the laundry in the village's downtown Wednesday around 10 a.m., bringing the fire under control by noon.

While the laundromat was a total loss, firefighters were able to prevent the flames from extending to the Alling Coverlet Museum next door, which houses 500 coverlets made between 1820 and 1880the largest collection in the world.

No injuries were reported, and WROC News reported on Thursday that a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were charged with fourth-degree arson in the fire.
