Washington DC firefighters were called to the historic Cleveland Abbe House on Tuesday night that once served as a Presidential residence.
Upon arriving, crews found fire in a one-story setback behind the residence used as a kitchen and pantry structure. Firefighters opened up the fire building and used handlines to extinguish the flames before they could reach the three-story adjacent historic building.
According to Wikipedia, one of the most notable residents of the Cleveland Abbe House was James Monroe, who occupied it as United States Secretary of War and as President while the White House was restored after the War of 1812.
One firefighter was injured and transported with minor injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
