Burn Victim Airlifted from NJ Barn Fire

Tankers were needed to shuttle water to the scene of a barn fire in Monroe Township as fire engulfed a large barn and left two injured.

One person was airlifted for treatment Wednesday morning as firefighters battled a fire in a large pole barn in Gloucester County.

Firefighters from several companies responded shortly after 7 a.m. to a property in the 200 block of South Tuckahoe Road in Monroe Township for a report of a structure fire and found a camper and a 50-by-100-foot barn in flames.

Multiple water trucks from fire departments around the area were called to shuttle water to the rural site.

A male resident was airlifted to a medical facility, according to township police, but details of his injuries were not released. A firefighter was treated for a minor injury and released on scene, officials said.

No other residents were hurt in the blaze, according to police, who also noted that no farm animals were injured.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished by Williamstown Fire Department, is unknown and remains under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office, police reported Wednesday afternoon.

Agencies responding to the scene in addition to Williamstown Fire Department included Monroe Township EMS, Star Cross Fire Department, Clayton Fire Company, Janvier Volunteer Fire Company 43-2, Cecil Fire Company, Monroe Township police and emergency management officials, and Gloucester County EMS.
