One Dead after AL Explosion, Fire

An explosion and subsequent fire in a Tuscaloosa County single-family home left one occupant dead and two others injured.

One person died in an explosion at a home on the 1600 block of 60th Avenue in Cottondale Monday morning.

Tuscaloosa fire crews arrived to find a one-story, single-family home with heavy smoke and fire conditions around 11 a.m.

Fire officials told WKRG 5 that three occupants were inside the home when the explosion occurred.

Two occupants were able to make it to safety, but one man perished in the fire. 

Firefighters used a defensive attack due to fire conditions.
