Body Recovered From QVC Fire Site in NC

Dec. 20, 2021
The body of a 21-year-old worker was recovered from the ruins of Saturday’s massive fire at the QVC distribution center in Rocky Mount.

Officials have recovered a body from the QVC distribution center on Sunday after a massive fire destroyed the building Saturday.

"At approximately 11:30 am, Fire Search and Recover members located a body on the outbound side of the loading dock of QVC," read a statement from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office Facebook.

The body was positively identified as Kevon Ricks, the 21-year-old worker who was reported missing earlier in the fire.

The fire had not touched the part of the structure where Ricks was found, Edgecombe County Manager Eric Evans told Fox6Now.

"An autopsy has not been done, but they are assuming it may have been through smoke inhalation," Evans told the television station.

In a press conference Sunday, officials said 75 percent of the 1.2 million-square-foot building was destroyed in the fire.

About 300 workers were inside the QVC building when the fire was reported.

“As soon as we got to the door, we heard the fire alarm,” employee Timothy Richardson told WITN.com. “That is when we saw the flames all over the top of the building.”
