2-Alarm Fire Spreads to Attic of CA Apartment Building

San Bernardino County firefighters fought a two-alarm apartment fire in the City of Upton that damaged eight units.

Jan. 17—A fire broke out at a large apartment complex and damaged eight units in Upland Monday afternoon, Jan. 17, although it is currently unclear if anyone was injured.

The fire was reported just after 1 p.m. at 1580 W. Eighth St. near Benson Avenue. Smoke and flames were coming out of a two-story apartment building and fire crews learned that both floors of the building and an attic space had become involved in fire, the Fire Department said on Twitter.

The fire was extinguished shortly after 3 p.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Department said. The fire's origin was under investigation.

The Ontario Fire Department, the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District and the Chino Valley Independent Fire District assisted with the incident, the county Fire Department said.

The American Red Cross was on scene to assist the displaced residents, the Fire Department said. The exact number of residents receiving services was not immediately available, said Christine Welch, spokeswoman with the American Red Cross.

"The Red Cross is working to provide food, shelter, health services, and more, for those who were displaced by the fire," Welch said.
