PA Firefighters Battle Auto Repair Shop Fire

Feb. 4, 2022
Two dozen fire departments battled a three-alarm fire in an Ambler auto repair shop that required crews to lay hoselines across railroad tracks.

Wissahickon Fire Company and surrounding departments battled a stubborn fire in an Ambler auto repair shop Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to Ebner’s Auto Inc. and arrived to find multiple vehicles inside and the structure on fire.

Firefighters attempted to control the fire inside the building, but they had to transition to defensive mode due to the volume of fire, Wissahickon Fire Company Chief Jay Leadbeater told KYW Newsradio.

Firefighters used handlines and aerial towers to control the fire and protected nearby exposures.

With firefighters stretching hoselines across adjacent railroad tracks, rail service was shut down for several hours.

Around 25 fire crews from the area spent close to five hours battling the blaze before bringing it under control.

Officials said the business owner was taken to the hospital.
