MI FFs Battle 3-Alarm Mall Fire

Feb. 10, 2022
An Ann Arbor strip mall sustained heavy damage after a three-alarm fire tore through the building.

Ann Arbor firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at the Cranbrook Shopping Plaza Tuesday.

Firefighters were initially dispatched to a still alarm and with multiple callers reporting a fire, the incident was quickly upgraded to a first alarm

With a significant amount of fire showing from a commercial building, second and third alarms were called, according to a statement from Fire Chief Mike Kennedy.

Firefighters found heavy fire in the parapet of the Big Blue Swim School, which was under construction. The parapet had multiple void spaces and numerous layers from multiple renovations over the years.

Five aerial ladders were used during operations to battle the significant fire load from wood paneling and Styrofoam insulation.
