CA Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Storage Unit Fire

March 11, 2022
Chula Vista firefighters battled a two-alarm fire that spread through a storage facility damaging multiple units.

A fire of unknown origin broke out Thursday afternoon at a Chula Vista storage facility, prompting a large response by firefighters who needed nearly an hour to knock down the flames, officials said.

The blaze was reported a few minutes after 1 p.m. at the Storage Outlet self storage facility on Third Avenue near Emerson Street, Chula Vista Fire Department spokesman Capt. Josh Sanders said.

The first crews to arrive at the building encountered heavy smoke and flames and called for additional crews and firefighting resources, Sanders said. The firefighters knocked down the blaze around 2 p.m.

No injuries were reported among firefighters or anyone else, according to Sanders.

Investigators remained at the scene a few hours later probing the cause and origin of the flames, Sanders said. There was no immediate information about how many storage units were damaged.

Footage from OnScene TV showed firefighters had accessed or forced entry into at least eight units, with at least two of the units and their contents appearing to be badly damaged.
