With just a few months on the job, a rookie D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter rescued a fire victim Sunday.

Kojo Saunders, working on Engine 10, located the woman inside the fire apartment inside the three-story building, according to WTOP.

"We forced the door and found we had smoke completely in the apartment," Saunders said.

As Engine 10 crew was getting the line into the fire room, Saunder said, "I heard someone coughing...I started searching. I found the occupant and then I dragged them out to Rescue 1 outside."
