MD Carnival Back on Track after Storm Damage

Aug. 8, 2023
Hampstead firefighters answered emergencies as well as repaired damage to save the annual carnival.

Before the skies darkened in the Carroll County area Monday, Hampstead firefighters decided to cancel their carnival for the evening.

"We made the decision early in the afternoon to not open carnival for the evening, so we were very fortunate to have no injuries," Lt. JJ Lynott, PIO for Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company said in a statement.

While some answered emergencies in the area during the storm, others responded to the carnival grounds to start assessing the damage, cleaning up and making repairs.

The teamwork paid off as the carnival will open on time at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The loss has been estimated at $30,000 plus damage to the property and Rosedale Amusements.

During the annual carnival, the volunteers use four very large tents and two slightly smaller.

Two of the very large tents and one of the others were destroyed while others were damaged.

"We will be open this evening on time," Lynott said adding that the carnival is the company's largest fundraising event.
