Feb. 11, 2024
Firefighters were evacuated from the structure in downtown Frederick when conditions deteriorated.

Firefighters battled a massvie three-alarm structure fire in downtown Frederick Saturday afternoon.

Crews could see the heavy smoke when they left their stations at 3:42 p.m.

They initiated an aggressive attack and did a quick primary search. The fire quickly spread to a walkway connected to another building.

Officers quickly called for a second-alarm, and as the fire intensified, they evacuated firefighters from the structure.

Later, a third alarm was requested to assist. Firefighters remained at the scene Saturday night hitting hotspots.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries but did not require transport to a hospital, Frederick County Chief Tom Coe said.
