More than three dozen Syracuse firefighters battled an early morning fire in a boarded up and vacant structure Friday.
Firefighters from Station 2 arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the back of the 2 1/2-story home on East Laurel Street around 5:00 a.m.
Crews used various tools, including saws, to gain entry to the home as crews working to darken down the fire, according to a statement from the department.
Command ordered a defensive attack using elevated and ground-based master streams as flames quickly engulfed the entire home, leading to a partial collapse in the rear of the structure.
At one point, a water main broke and crews scrambled to find a new water source.
The fire was declared under control more than two hours after firefighters arrived.
