Farming Mishap Claims Two Off-Duty New York Firefighters

One of the victims was a firefighter with Tully Fire & EMS while the other was with Cuyler Fire Department.

Two New York fire departments are mourning the loss of two firefighters killed in a farming incident in Kirkland Thursday.

The investigation revealed one of the men was overcome when he went into a manure tanker to retrieve a piece of equipment. As the second man tried to help, he also passed out and also fell in, according to WSYR. 

They were transported to Wynn Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

They were identified as Nathan Doody, 33, of DeRuyter, and Tyler Memory, 29, of Tully.

Memory was a 15-year member of the Tully Fire & EMS. Joining when he was 14, he was a third-generation firefighter. 

Doody has been a firefighter with Cuyler Fire Department in Cortland County for 10 years.
