Firefighters from several jurisdictions were battling a fire on the CSX bridge at Harpers Ferry Monday afternoon.
Dark smoke from the fire was visible for miles.
Firefighters from Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland and and Loudoun County, VA and Jefferson County, WV were dispatched for a brush fire in the area. Crews advised the bridge was on fire as well.
The bridge over the Potomac River stretches between Washington County and Harpers Ferry.
Firefighters remained on the scene Monday evening.
MARC commuter trains were stopped in Brunswick while freight trains also were halted.
