Syracuse, NY, Firefighters Rescue House Fire Victim

Firefighters searching the second floor of the Syracuse home found the victim and removed them via a ladder.

Syracuse, N.Y. — A person was found unconscious in a house fire Saturday evening on Syracuse’s North Side, firefighters said.

The fire at 519 Burnet Ave. was reported at about 6 p.m.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the second floor when they arrived, according to Deputy Fire Chief James Farewell. He said it took about 20 minutes to put out the fire.

Crews found the unconscious person while they searched the home’s second floor, Farewell said. The person was brought out a window, then down a ladder to waiting paramedics. They were transported to Upstate University Hospital.

Further information about the person’s condition was not immediately available.

The second floor sustained extensive fire damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
