Police Officer Pulls Resident from Burlington, MA, House Fire

First responders rescued an unconscious resident from a blazing house fire early Sunday morning, Burlington Fire and Police departments reported.

At about 4:08 a.m. Sunday morning, a passerby called in a fire at a single-family home at 16 Evelyn St. in Burlington, the departments stated in a release.

Responders from Burlington Fire and Police arrived on the scene, finding “heavy fire coming from the roof of the home.”

A police officer entered the burning building and found a resident lying unconscious inside, the departments said. The cop pulled the person from the house, and they were taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

The victim’s condition is “unknown at this time,” the departments said Sunday morning.

Firefighters started battling the rampant flames immediately, the release said. The one-story home had already suffered a “partial collapse of the roof” when responders arrived.

The firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 40 minutes, the departments said, and remained on the scene throughout the morning to extinguish hotspots.

The resident was not immediately identified by Burlington Police and Fire departments as of Sunday morning.

The origin and cause of the fire are under active investigation by Burlington Fire and Police departments, as well as officials with the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and Massachusetts State Police detectives with the DA’s office.
