YORK, PA – (Feb. 18, 2020) – VFIS, a division of Glatfelter Insurance Group, welcomes David Michaels as the new Vice President of Education, Training and Consulting Services. Michaels will lead the team, which has trained more than 195,000 emergency service personnel since 2006, in their mission to provide field training courses, online classes, education materials and personalized assistance.
Michaels brings 28 years of emergency service experience to the team and served as Fire Chief for the York City Fire Department from 2012 until 2019 when he retired from the fire service. Most recently, Michaels served as the Team Leader of Emergency Management at a large hospital in PA. He has served as a member of many fire industry organizations, including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Pennsylvania Association of Fire Code Officials and Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association.
“Dave’s experience within the fire service – both administratively and tactically – brings a great deal of value to our team and clients,” explained Troy Markel, President of VFIS. “His firsthand knowledge of the risks that firefighters and EMS personnel face every day help our team as we continue to expand our education, training and consulting services, and enable us to be more nimble when we’re serving clients with unique challenges.”
Michaels has a Master of Science in Leadership with an Emphasis in Disaster Preparedness & Effective Fire Leadership and completed the Executive Fire Officer Program through the National Fire Academy. He also holds numerous fire-related certifications, including Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Instructor I & II and Fire Officer I & II.
VFIS sends its sincerest best wishes and gratitude to Dr. William Jenaway who previously held this position and retired from full-time work with VFIS in January after 19 years.
