Thousands of families and fire fighters mourning the loss of their loved ones will gather at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs for the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, a powerful ceremony honoring fire fighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This year’s ceremony will honor the names of 308 fire fighters who died in the line of duty. The ceremony honors all line of duty deaths, including those who died on scene or succumbed to occupational illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, and suicide.
So far, the names of 9,532 fire fighters - dating back to 1918 - have been added to the IAFF Memorial Wall of Honor, a series of polished granite stones at Memorial Park in the shadow of Pikes Peak.
The event will be streamed live.
