Firefighters in Paris captured video footage as they battled to keep flames from consuming the Notre Dame Cathedral this week.

Although the 850-year-old cathedral's roof and famous spire were destroyed, around 500 firefighters were able to save two bell towers at the building's western facade, as well as many of the priceless artifacts inside, including the Crown of Thorns, CNN reports. One firefighter was seriously injured during the fire.
