RI Firefighters Injured Battling Large House Blaze

The two Woonsocket firefighters were taken to the hospital after tackling a fire that broke out at a two-story house early Friday.

Two Rhode Island firefighters were injured battling a large house fire early Friday.

Crews responded to the blaze at a two-story Woonsocket home at about 2 a.m., WPRI-TV reports. Two residents were able to flee the burning home with their three cats.

The injured firefighters were taken to the hospital. Details about the extent of their injuries was not released.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in around 15 minutes, but the blaze still did damage to the home.

“There is significant damage,” Woonsocket Deputy Chief Keith Lopes told WPRI. “It’s an addition and a kitchen and a bathroom and a lot of damage from the fire and smoke.
