Fort Wayne firefighters made "an aggressive offensive attack" on the blaze that broke out at a single-story home southeast of the city's downtown.

An Indiana firefighter was burned during a house fire early Thursday.

Fort Wayne crews responded at about 3:15 a.m. to a fire that broke out at a single-story home southeast of the city's downtown, WANE-TV reports. When they arrived, firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure and began "an aggressive offensive attack" on the blaze, a battalion chief told WANE.

A firefighter suffered minor burns battling the blaze. Two people escaped the burning house on their own, and one person was taken to the hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Crews had the fire under control after nearly 25 minutes. Flames and smoke badly damaged the house, and officials believe the fire began in the kitchen in the back of the home, according to WANE.
