A North Carolina firefighter and a support person suffered heat-related illness during a house fire Saturday.
The fire broke out at home in Duck shortly before 5 p.m., WAVY-TV reports. As firefighters contained the flames to the single house, they also faced a heat index nearing 101 degrees.
"Firefighters successfully kept the fire from spreading in the face of an intense heat index," the Duck Fire Department stated in an online update.
During the blaze, a firefighter and a support crew member were treated for heat-related illness. One person also was taken to the hospital, but it was unclear whot that was, according to WAVY.
Duck firefighters received support from the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department, the Kitty Hawk Fire Department, Corolla Fire and Rescue, the Colington Fire Department, and Dare County EMS.
