San Diego firefighters evacuated nearby houses and made quick work of a residential blaze that ignited live ammunition that was stored inside the burning home's garage.

San Diego firefighters made quick work of a residential blaze that ignited ammunition stored inside a house Thursday, forcing the evacuation of nearby homes.

The fire broke out just before 2 a.m., and flames engulfed a residence in the 4400 block of Niagara Avenue, KFMB-TV reports. As the house burned, loud popping could be heard as ammunition in the home's garage began discharging.

Nearby homes were evacuated as crews worked to extinguish the blaze. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the flames under control.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
