A large Maryland house fire killed three people and sent two more to the hospital Wednesday.
Roughly 60 firefighters and 40 units from multiple departments responded to the fire at a 2 ½-story home in Hagerstown just before 7 p.m., the Herald-Mail reports. Heavy flames were coming from the wood-frame house, and crews needed to fight through them to search the structure after being told people might be trapped inside, according to Hagerstown Fire Chief Steve Lohr.
"You can imagine what the inside looks like," Lohr told the Herald-Mail.
Three people were found dead in the house, although no details were released concerning ages or gender. Two people also were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, and their conditions were not given.
Firefighters were able to get the flames under control in around a half hour, according to the Herald-Mail. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
