An FDNY firefighter was seriously injured battling a two-alarm residential fire Wednesday.
The fire broke out at about 5 a.m. at a house in the Woodlawn section of Queens, WPIX-TV reports. More than 100 firefighters from 25 units were called to the scene and encountered flames coming from the structure's second floor.
A firefighter suffered serious injuries after falling through a window into a small shaft between two buildings, officials told the New York Daily News. The firefighter was rescued from the shaft and taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
Five civilians also suffered minor injuries, according to WPIX. Crews were able to control the fire by 6:30 a.m.
