Indianapolis firefighters said lightweight construction compromised the house's integrity.

Indianapolis firefighters initiated an exterior defensive attack at a house fire.

Heavy black smoke was billowing and there were heavy flames visible as crews approached the scene on Royal Lake Circle.

Incident commanders ordered the defensive operations initially. However, after about 20 minutes, firefighters went inside, according to a release on the IFD Facebook page.

"Lightweight construction and now critically compromised structural integrity made work tenuous for crews as they extinguished hot spots," fire officials said.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

While the cause of the fire is under investigation, the homeowner told firefighters that they had been experiencing electrical issues in the garage, which is where the fire broke out. the statement read.
