One person was seriously injured in a house explosion in Coon Rapids on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was found outside the flattened house, Coons Rapid Chief John Piper told reporters at a press conference at the scene.
The adult man was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center for critical injuries.
The house to the east sustained extensive fire damage, while the one on the opposite side had blast damage but no fire.
Piper said an investigation is underway to determine the cause. He said crews will remain on the scene for several hours.
"A day like today, you might get 15, 20 minutes out of a firefighter and then he or she needs to take a break and go into rehab. The Allina paramedics will check their health, make sure their blood pressure and heart rate and all that is okay. Give them water, of course, let them cool off. And then when they feel it's appropriate, they can go back for a second round of duty..."
The chief called the incident unusual for his department.
