A 3-year-old girl and 49-year-old man pulled early Friday morning from a burning York County home have died, authorities said.
Both lived on the 500 block of Company Street in the city of York, where a fire began around 4 a.m. Friday, according to Coroner Pamela Gay. They were taken to WellSpan York Hospital, where they died hours later.
Gay said the pair’s identities will be released once their next of kin has been notified. Their cause and manners of death are under investigation.
News reports said firefighters rescued a third person from the home, who was also taken to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
The fire started on the second floor and spread to the third, causing severe damage to both floors, according to WGAL. The home sustained extensive smoke and water damage, but is not a total loss, FOX 43 reported.
CBS 21 reported a firefighter was taken to a hospital with a minor burn.
Neighbors were evacuated from their homes during the fire. FOX 43 said no other homes or buildings were damaged in the process.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
