RI FFs Rescue People Stranded in High Water

Providence firefighters said the water was more than four feet deep after the heavy rainfall.

Providence firefighters rescued more than two dozen people stranded in a shopping plaza after the West River overflowed its banks Monday evening due to heavy rainfall.

Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Jutras told 12 News firefighters quickly donned wetsuits and initiated the operation in inflatable boats. 

None of the 25 people brought to dry land was injured.

Jutras said the water was more than four feet deep in some places, and motorists continued to attempt to drive through it.
