Los Angeles County firefighters were challenged by live ammunition in the trailer.

Two veteran Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were seriously hurt Tuesday when a fire broke out inside a trailer serving as a mobile shooting range.

Both were listed in critical condition after being burned, Sheriff Robert Luna said at a press conference adding that one had served for 21 years, the other 17.

Similar ranges across the county were shuttered after the incident.

“We need to know why it happened and get to the bottom of it so we prevent it from happening again,” he said.

Crews fought the fire for more than four hours as their efforts were hampered by live ammunition in the tractor-trailer range.
