Nov. 3—Firefighters were called to the former Lincoln Chemical building in Reading on Thursday night for the second time in two days.

Crews responded to a working fire at the building at 600 S. Ninth St. about 8:30 p.m., and a second alarm was struck.

Reading public safety personnel just before 10 p.m. advised residents in the area north of Laurel Street to Rockland Street and east of Fifth Street to Mount Penn to shelter in place and keep their doors and windows closed because of smoke from the fire.

That advisory was lifted just before midnight, but people were requested to avoid the area.

On Tuesday, Firefighters responded about 5:30 p.m. to reports of smoke from the upper floors of the building.

Crews noted a fire on the third floor that was extending into the roof. The fire was reported under control about 6 p.m.

Officials said that fire started in the third-floor stairwell, but the cause was not yet known.

Further information was unavailable.
