Now, they're the ones calling for help -- from voters.
“The members haven’t had a salary increase. They’ve been at $8.92, starting salary since 2007, 2008,” Fire Chief Terence Morris told WWL
Pay is just one of the issues. With apparatus out of service, they've had to borrow fire trucks from departments including Terrytown and the Jefferson Parish Fire Training Academy.

The new property tax -- which is on the ballot when voters go to the polls Saturday -- would replace the current 7.4 millage established 40 years ago with an 18.2 mil tax. It would generate about $11 million a year.
If passed, the new tax would cost the owner of a $300,000 home about $400 a year.
