The Columbus firefighter was conscious during the trip to the hospital.

A Columbus firefighter slipped and fell off a roof of a house Monday night while battling a fire.

Columbus Division of Fire Chief Jeffrey Geitter told NBC4 that the firefighter was transported to Grant Medical Center. He was conscious during the trip. There was no word on the severity of the injuries.

When the fire spread from the building of origin to the one next door, crews went to the roof to work. The firefighter struck an overhang on his way to the ground, the chief said.

This was the second time firefighters responded to the house for a fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
