Fire officials are investigating to determine the cause of a fire that reduced the iconic lodge at Lutsen Resort to a pile of rubble early Tuesday.
The one staff member called 9-1-1 after seeing smoke in the lobby. There were no guests since it was Monday. Firefighters from Lutsen, Tofte, Grand Marais and others found heavy fire showing from the lodge, KARE 11 reported.
All that remain are the chimneys. Managers say they'll rebuild and make it better. There were two previous fires in 1949 and 1951. They noted that the lodge did have sprinklers.
Lutsen Resort claims to be Minnesota's oldest resort, dating back to 1885.
